Obituary of Thomas Charles Lamar

Thomas C. Lamar, 83, of Hudson Gardens, Plains Twp., passed away Monday February 3rd, 2025, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Plains Twp., after a recent illness.

Thomas was born on May 11th, 1941 to Corneilus C. Lamar and Martha Cuddeback Lamar in Clarks Summit.  After graduating from Berwick High School in 1959, Tom went on to earn an associate’s degree in Accounting from Wilkes-Barre Business College.

Tom spent most of his career in banking, working at the Berwick Bank, Public national Bank in Washington D.C., Luzerne National Bank, and he served over a decade as the Chief Executive Officer of the Old Forge Bank.   He also was a senior bank examiner for the Pennsylvania Department of Banking for over a decade.

Tom was an expert wartime historian and also loved golf.  But nothing was more important to Tom than time with his family celebrating cherished family traditions.  He also found time to be a member of several organizations such as the Jaycees, the Elks here he was a life time member, the Pennylvania Bankers Association, and the Second Presbyterian Church, Pittston.  Tom engaged in his love of golf as an original member of Glenmaura National Golf Club and also belonged to Fox Hill Country Club.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sarah Martinelli Lamar, children David (Ellen) Lamar, Pittsburgh, Michael (Brenda) Lamar, Dubois, sister, Caroline (Roy) Clark, brother, Robert (Barbara) Lamar both of Dover, Delaware, grandchildren, Andrew (Alexandra) Lamar, Erica (Ian) Harberson, Alexandra (Andrew) Capaci, Jacob (Jennifer) Lamar, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing for Tom on Saturday February 8th, 2025 from 10am until 12pm. In the Second Presbyterian Church at 143 Parsonage Street, Pittston.   A service will be conducted at Noon.   Interment will then follow in the West Pittston Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers or memorial donations may be made to the Second Presbyterian Church Mission Fund at 143 Parsonage Street Pittston, Pa 18640.

Arrangements are by the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home Inc., 509 Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston.
