Walter W. Schirra Obituary

Walter W. Schirra, 67, of Nanticoke, passed away Tuesday August 26th, 2025 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.


Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late Walter and Eleanore Meyers Schirra.   He attended Scranton Schools.


Walter for many years drove truck for local trucking companies, but his real passion was motorcycles.   He loved riding and working on them.   He was also self-employed and had his own shop where he built and repaired bikes. 


He was a past president of the Wheels of Freedom motorcycle group and was also a member of the Rolling Thunder.  Walter also loved his remote-controlled cars. 

 


He was preceded in death by his son, Walter Schirra Jr. in 1995, daughter, Joy Schirra in 2025.


Walter is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former, Colleen Huegel Schirra, sister, Sherry Black and her husband Frank, Sterling, Pa. 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, a niece and nephew and several cousins and friends and his cherished dog, Paco.


As per Walter’s wishes there will be no Funeral services. 


Arrangements are by the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home Inc., 509 Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston.
