A beautiful smile and a generous heart, Katherine Evans, 73, of West Pittston, passed away Sunday, June 20th, 2021 at Geisinger CMC in Scranton.
She was born in Vero Beach, Florida. She was the daughter of the late Velus and Marylin Hallman Benson and was a graduate of Emmaus High School.
Katherine was preceded by her husband Arthur in November of 2020, her daughter, Allison Pepe, and he son, Michael Evans.
Kathy was community-minded and belonged to several organizations. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in West Pittston. She served as past president of several boards, including The Junior League of Wilkes-Barre, the Pittston YMCA Board, and the Fox Hill Ladies Golf Association.
Arthur and Kathy would have been married 50 years in May. She spent much of her adult life as a stay at home mom raising her three children who she adored. She also was co-owner of Evans Hardware in West Pittstton with her husband for 30 years.
She is survived by her daughter Jamie Broda and her husband Tom of West Pittston, 5 grandchildren, Cooper and Leona Broda and Katie, Billy, and Libby Pepe. She is also survived by six siblings. They are sisters Diane O'Shea of Brejnigsville, PA, Dana Frey and Husband Greg of Macungie, Pa, Lane Benson of Allentown, PA, Laurie Benson of Pleasant Hill, CA, and Karol Thomas and husband Derek McKee of New Tripoli, Pa. She is also survived by her brother Keith Benson and his wife Jan of Winter Park, FA. Kathy has many nieces and nephews that meant so much to her that she leaves behind, as well.
A Celebration of both Katherine and Arthur's life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home Inc., at 509 Wyoming Avenue in West Pittston.
