On Friday, April 23, 2021, Irene D. Hastie Knorr, loving mother to Derek Knorr, of Taylor, and devoted grandmother to Kiersten Knorr and Derek Knorr Jr., passed away at age 81 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Irene was born Oct. 1, 1939, to the late Aaron and Pauline Lutz Hastie.

Growing up in West Pittston, Irene attended West Pittston High School, Class of 1957, and went on to pursue a teaching degree from Bloomsburg University, Class of 1961.

Upon graduation, she taught in the Tinton Falls and Willingboro School Districts in New Jersey. Irene later returned to West Pittston, where she substituted for Wyoming Area School District. After her teaching adventures, Irene pursued a career in radio sales working for several radio stations, including WILK, Magic 93 and Gold Bond Media, until her retirement.

In her spare time, Irene enjoyed writing poetry, crosswords, and reading. Her most cherished moments were spending time with her son, grandchildren, siblings and extended family. Irene also had a love for fashion and accessorized her outfits with her favorite jewelry and animal print clothing. She was known for her quick wit, her infectious smile and her kind and compassionate spirit.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, Raphael J. Bonita.

Surviving are her son, Derek Knorr and his wife, Dana; her grandchildren, Kiersten Knorr and Derek Knorr Jr.; brother, Aaron Hastie and his wife, Janice; sister, Barbara Bonita; nephews and nieces, Aaron P. Hastie (Wendy); Suzanne Hastie (Mark); Raphael Bonita (Catherine); David Bonita (Laura); Diane Eraydin (Nuri); and Laura Roloff (Richard); and several great-nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held for family members.

Arrangements are entrusted to Howell-Lussi Funeral Home Inc., 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston.
