Obituary
Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William “Kirk” Algar, 84, of Tunkhannock and formerly of Avoca, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022, at home.
Kirk, as everyone knew and called him, was born in Avoca; he was the son of the late Joseph “Pete” and Mary Howell Algar.
He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Avoca.
In June, 1938, shortly after birth, Kirk was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. As a parent, it is one of the hardest days of your life. All at once, you are upset, worried and afraid. But now looking back on this moment, Kirk’s family soon realized that this was just the beginning of many perfectly blessed days. Kirk continuously taught our family the true meaning of life, and changed our life for the better. If our family has to described Kirk in just a few words, they would be “pure joy.” This sweet, gentle, energetic person, who just happened to have an extra chromosome, made his family most joyful than anyone could ever imagine.
He was preceded in death by a nephew, Scott Kryeski.
Kirk is survived by his sister and caregiver, Sarah Kryeski and her husband, Ronald, of Moosic; sister, Harriet Jaworski and her husband, Joseph, of Pittston; nephew, Ken Kryeski and his wife, Yang Suk, of Scott Twp., Pa.
Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Langcliffe Presbyterian Church at 1001 Main St. in Avoca, with the Pastor Margaret Zeigler officiating. Interment will be in the Langcliffe Cemetery, Avoca.
Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. in the Langcliff Presbyterian Church.
Kirk’s family would like to thank everyone at the Keystone Human Services Inc. for their kind and compassionate care.
