Ruth H. Hitchner, 98, a resident at Guardian Health Care, formerly of West Pittston, passed away Saturday September 10th, 2022 in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in West Pittston she was a daughter of the late James and Katherine Smith Hontz and was a graduate of the West Pittston High School.   After High School she attended Secretarial School and later was the executive secretary at Sordoni Enterprises which later became Commonwealth Telephone Enterprises.

She was a member of the First Congressional United Church of Christ in West Pittston.   Ruth was also a former member at Fox Hill Country Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth in 2003, Brother James Hontz Jr., Sisters, Naomi Hontz, Betty Mahar, step-daughter, Barbara Hitchner.

Ruth is survived by Nephews, Thomas Hontz and wife Bonnie of Harbeson, De, James Hontz Jr., and his wife Laura, Riverdale, Md., Step-son Nick Hitchner and wife Anne of New Jersey, and Several grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at a date to be announced in October.

Arrangements are by the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home Inc., 509 Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston.
