Obituary of Kimberly J. Obeid
Kimberly Obeid, 68, of Hanover Twp., passed away peacefully at her home on Monday
December 12, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was a loving mother, daughter,
sister, grandmother, aunt, friend, and angel of her community. She was a sweet,
vibrant woman who was full of life. Kim was a truly gentle soul who cared for those
around her and had a warm, welcoming personality.
Kim graduated from Meyers High School and Misericordia University. She was
employed by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District for her entire career, which
began in 1976. She worked with special-needs children, first as an elementary
school special education teacher and later as an instructional support teacher.
Most of all, she loved and cherished her two children and three grandchildren. She
was brimming with excitement upon the birth of her first grandchild, and in the years
that followed she was blessed with two more. She loved her role as Gigi and left an
indelible mark on Oliver, Elodie, and Nathaniel, who meant the world to her.
She had many loyal and loving friends in the community, and she was well-loved
and known for her big heart. She loved her trips to Florida to see her family and
enjoy the warm weather, which increased in frequency and duration since her
retirement 6 years ago. She also enjoyed regular visits with her friends to Cape Cod
and Wildwood, New Jersey.
Kim was physically active throughout her life. She competed in local running races
and finished the Steamtown Marathon. She also enjoyed playing pickleball and her
regular dates with her mahjong crew.
Perhaps Kim’s most important contribution to the community was her devotion to
volunteering and service. She actively volunteered with the Valley Santa
organization for over 20 years, and also at the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen.
She understood that kindness, generosity, and time spent giving nourished the soul.
Kim was preceded in death by her mother, Eleanor (Rizek) Obeid.
Left to Cherish her memory are her father, Joseph Obeid of Wilkes-Barre, PA; brother, Jay Obeid
and wife Rita of Boca Raton, FL; sister, Audora Obeid of Wilkes-Barre, PA; son,
Kristopher Januzzi and wife Chrissy of Conshohocken, PA; daughter Tracy
(Januzzi) Penfield and husband Jeremy of McLean, VA; beloved grandchildren,
Oliver and Elodie Penfield of McLean, VA, and Nathaniel Januzzi of
Conshohocken, PA; and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the medical team at Memorial Sloan Kettering
Cancer Center in New York, NY, and Kim’s dear friends who were with her every
step of the way.
