Shirley Ann Pizano Kardos, 90, of West Pittston, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister, entered into eternal peace on December 7th, 2023.
A graduate of Exeter High School class of 1950, Shirley went on to combat the female stereotypes of the time and graduated College Misericordia with the Class of 1954. Shirley earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. With her higher education, not typical for women at this mid-century time, Shirley went on to become a teacher. She molded and shaped the lives of her students, and truly remembered every student she taught (especially the trouble makers). Shirley taught for a total of 38 years, 25 of which were at Wyoming Area High School. She was a Biology and Earth Science teacher.
“Shirl” loved watching (and ordering from) QVC, shopping in the comfort of her living room. She loved dogs, swimming pools, going to the beach, and white square pizza. Her hobbies included solving the most difficult of crossword puzzles (to keep herself sharp) and mastering Jeopardy (to remind herself she was sharp).
She was the loving wife of the late Jerome Kardos (2013). She was the spitfire daughter of the late Frank and Ida (Littzi) Pizanoof Exeter. She was the protective older sister of the late Frank Pizano Jr.
Surviving family include her daughter, Lisa Musto, son-in-law Dr. Charles Musto, and granddaughters: Dr. Christa Colaizzi(Samuel) of Wexford, PA and Vanessa Musto of San Diego, CA. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Marian Pizano, Romaine Kardos, and beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be private at Shirley’s request. Interment will be at the West Pittston Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home Inc., 509 Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston.
