George Thomas Parrick, 99 of Pittston, passed away Thursday November 28th, 2024 in The VA Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Pittston, he was a son of the late George and Margaret Colligan Parrick.   He attended Pittston High School and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.

George enlisted in the United States Navy December 10th, 1943.  He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and was sent to France on the Libert Merchant Ship.   George was a350 Gunner shooting 20mm rounds until “D” Day the end of World War II.  After the war he re-enlisted for the west coast and served as Assistant Fire Chief at the Fire Department in Honolulu, Hawaii from 1947-1949.  In September 1951 George was called to active duty and was stationed on the Castner Ship off the coast of Korea until June of 1953.

Following his military service, he worked in Pittston as a truck driver for McHugh Brothers moving company for 15 years.  He then worked for Pagnotti #1 Coal and construction in West Pittston for 20 years until his retirement.

He was a life member of the AMVETS Post #189 for over 43 years and was Post Commander from 1982-1983.  George was member and past commander of the American Legion Post #477, Pittston.  He was a member of and also past commander of the VFW Post # 4909, Dupont.  George was also a life member of the Korean War Veteran’s. 

He was preceded in death by his former wife Isabelle Haas Parrick, brothers, William, Joseph, Robert, and Thomas, sisters, Mary Pietruszewski, Margaret (Peggy) Mikluschak, Jane Cox, Darlene Swenton, Shirley Krakowski, Dolores Karsko, and nephew and caregiver, Frank Pietruszewski.

George is survived by his niece and caregiver, Susan Pietruszewski, Joe and Ann Parrick who have been so much comfort to him and several other nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank his home caregivers for the love and kindness shared over the last few years, especially Barbara Quadrini and the Va Hospice unit for the excellent care and treatment they gave George.

Relatives and friends are invited for a viewing for George on Wednesday December 4th, 2024 from 9am until 10am. in St. John the Evangelist Church at 35 William Street Pittston.   A Mass of Christian Burial will then take place at 10am.   Interment with Military Honors will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wyoming.

Arrangements are by the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home Inc., 509 Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston.
