Carlyle M. Robinson, 76, of Wyoming, passed away at home on Thursday morning May 25th, 2023.
Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Carlyle T. Robinson and Evelyn Edwards Robinson. He was a graduate of the Wyoming High School. After High School Carlyle attended Wilkes University and graduated with a B.S. in Business and Marketing
He was a teacher in the Wyoming Area School District, and then a permanent substitute teacher at the Wilkes-Barre Area Vo-tech and also taught at Luzerne County Community College for 25 years.
Carlyle was a member of the Fox Hill Country Club, Irem Temple Country Club and the Wyoming Hose Company #2, Wyoming.
Carlyle was one of the greatest amateur golfers in the valley. He loved the sport with such passion that on most sunny days you could find him somewhere on the links. He won multiple Better Ball of Partners tournaments at Irem Temple’s Potentates, Scranton Country Club member-guest, at Berwick’s Better Ball C.C. and at the Honesdale C.C. Member-Guest. He still holds the lowest score at his home course of Fox Hill. Carlyle won 7 club championships and 5 John Allan’s with his long-time friend, Jim Cicon. Carlyle also had 11 hole in ones over his golf career, one of them winning him a car during the McCarthy Tournament at the Wyoming Valley Country Club. He played in several State amateurs’ tournaments all over Pennsylvania. Carlyle also won many individual and team titles in the Anthracite Golf Association. He has a tournament in his name called the Carlyle Open of which he was very proud. Carlyle also coached golf at Luzerne County Community College. He credited his putting skills to his putter which bears the name “Smoothie.” Carlyle enjoyed playing on some exquisite courses such as Oak Hill Golf Course and Pebble beach.
Carlyle also loved to play cards with the guys every Thursday at Fox Hill. Additionally, he coached basketball at the Wyoming Area School District for 6 years. He loved watching sports especially golf and basketball.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Patricia; and his children, Caryn and her wife Ava of Reading, Carlyle of West Pittston, and his grandchildren, Carlyle T., Juliet, Henry, and Elliott, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A blessing service will be held on Tuesday morningMay 30th, 2023 at 11am. at the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, Inc., 509 Wyoming Avenue, West Pittston, with the Rev. Joseph Pisaneschi of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish officiating. Everyone is asked to arrive at the funeral home no later than 10:45am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Carlyle’s viewing which will be held at the funeral home from 5 to 8 pm on Monday. A private internment will be held at the family’s convenience.
